Columbia County: Elsa Is Here, It Could Have Been Worse

Paula Vann, Columbia County public information officer3 pm update:  Due to current and projected storm conditions, Columbia County is closing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Citizens Information Center (CIC), and the three shelters.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL –  Columbia County residents should expect the heaviest Storm Elsa impacts between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00p.m.today. Rainfall in Columbia County is still estimated to be between 4 to 6 inches and tropical storm force wind gusts (55-60 mph) are anticipated at various times throughout the day.

Some areas may experience locally heavier amounts of rain. We urge Columbia County residents to remain cautious and stay posted for updates and ensure you are prepared.

• Citizens Information Center (CIC) – The CIC is open. Call 386-719-7530 for Storm Elsa information.

• Government Offices – The following government offices plan to reopen normal business operations tomorrow, July 8.

• Garbage Pick-up – Garbage pick-up will commence when storm-winds are below 30 mph. If citizen’s garbage is not picked up today, it will be picked up on Thursday, July 8.

• Shelters – Shelters will be open until 6:00 p.m. today, July 7. Individuals with special needs will have power supplied for medical devices. 

Shelters are shelter only. No food or beverages will be provided.

Winfield Community Center, 1324 NW Winfield St, Lake City, FL 32055
