Only one in three Florida municipal clerks receive the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation.
Six months after being hired by Lake City (April 2021), Ms. Cannon joined the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and its partner organization in Florida, The Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC).
Of the 652 current members of the FACC, only 35%, or 227 members, have reached the Certified Municipal Clerk designation.
FACC is an association that promotes continuing education and certification through university and college-based institutes.
Ms. Cannon said, “I think it's important to keep yourself educated to be more helpful to those around you and your community."
To achieve the CMC designation, Ms. Cannon attended three conferences and two webinars. Additionally, her education at the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government at FSU in Tallahassee required 120 student/instructor contact hours of in-depth courses in managerial and leadership skills, social and interpersonal concerns, and technical training.
