In a light moment after the meeting Mr. Jefferson, Councilwoman Melinda Moses, and City Manager Joe Helfenberger were trying to decide how many times Mr. Jefferson had taken the oath. It may be after he completes this term he will be the longest sitting City Councilman in recent history.

Betty Jefferson gives Mr. Jefferson a congratulatory hug.

After fending off Vanessa George in his tightest race in two decades, a race in which many thought Mr. Jefferson was the underdog, he won reelection in a squeaker in August.
