City Hall, The Bricks Are Falling Down
O'Neal Roofing Estimates Repair at $296k

LAKE CITY, FL – Those that have been driving around downtown Lake City may have noticed activity happening on the brick walls of City Hall. These walls are brick façade. They are falling down.

In June 2018 the City's engineering firm, Tetra Tech, performed a visual inspection using non-destructive methods. The City’s primary concern was to assess the condition of the south and west face brick façade to determine what condition it was in and what options were available for repair.

While the engineers were on site, they were also informed that some of the floors in the building were sloping downward toward the west face of the building.

Tetra Tech was advised that the City was concerned that this was be related to the condition of the brick walls.

Tetra Tech found that there is an overhead hazard from loose bricks and mortar falling onto pedestrians along the west and south sides of the building.

Tetra Tech concluded if City Hall was to remain in use long term, the brick façade on the west and south face needed to be repaired.

Tetra Tech estimated the rough cost for restoring the brick façade and leveling select areas of the floor would be a minimum of $500,000, and as much as $1,000,000.

Tetra Tech's estimate to repair the floors was $56k.

At the end of April 2018, O'Neal roofing submitted an estimate to the City for $296k to replace the windows and fix the brick façade.

The issue is coming before the City Council during Monday evening's Council meeting.
