Lake City Report - June 10, 2011
Historical Society and the Blanche on tap

From City Manager Wendell Johnson

Lake City/Columbia County Historical Society Museum

The City Staff met with representatives this past Wednesday to continue discussion on relocating the museum to the downtown CRA District.   The old auto dealership (Vann Property) located on the northwest corner of Marion Street and Franklin Street is the proposed location.   A “Letter of Interest” will be submitted to the City within a few days to outline and establish the basic CRA Partnership plan.

Blanche Hotel

Early this week we were contacted with a request for information regarding asbestos and lead paint conditions within the Blanche Hotel.

A request has been made by the prospect for City CRA assistance to complete the asbestos/paint study.   The prospect has indicated tentative plans for a partnership with the City CRA for acquisition of the building and redevelopment of approximately 38,000 square feet of space at an expected cost of $6 million.

The Staff has continued positive discussions with the Blanche Hotel redevelopment prospect during the last several months.
