TALLAHASSEE, FL - June is LGBTQ Pride month. Equality Florida is fanning out to Pride events all over the state to introduce the Our Tomorrow campaign.
It's
a survey and social media effort
created by a national
organization, Equality
Federation, to identify the
issues that matter most to LGBTQ
Americans.
"We're gathering people's hopes, ideas and fears for the future of the LGBT movement," explains Hannah Willard, a field organizer at Equality Florida. "It's so incredibly important to talk with members of the community about what they hope for the future."
The
biggest issue? Marriage
equality, which is expected to
be decided by the U.S. Supreme
Court in the next few weeks.
Willard is optimistic that same sex marriage will become the law of the land.
"Especially now that we are hopefully going to win the freedom to marry across the country," she states. "We want to hear from people about what their ideas are to really win full equality for all of us."
The
Our Tomorrow team already made a
splash at Pride events in
Orlando and Key West - and team
members hit Fort Lauderdale this
past weekend. The biggest one in
the state - St. Petersburg -
starts Friday.
The campaign also has a major social media component. People can take the survey online and weigh in on Twitter at #OurTomorrow.
