LCPD: Woman Threatened With Gun

On January 7, 2011, officers responded to Lake City Plaza on south Main Blvd. in reference to a dispute at approximately 5:15 p.m.
As officers were responding, additional calls came in stating one person in the argument was now armed with a firearm.
The arriving officers made contact with April Norton, the victim and other witnesses.
Ms. Norton stated that while at Bealls Outlet she was approached by Erica K. Shemwell, suspect, who began to yell obscenities towards her. Ms. Shemwell then left the store. Ms. Shemwell returned inside the store and Ms. Norton began to leave. Ms. Shemwell followed Ms. Norton outside and pulled a pistol out of her purse and according to multiple witnesses threatened Ms. Norton while pointing the pistol at her. Ms. Shemwell then left the area as Ms. Norton called 911.
Officers were able to stop Ms. Shemwell, as she was leaving the area, based on the description of the suspect and car that had been given.
Ms. Shemwell denied threatening Ms. Norton with a gun.
Ms. Shemwell was found to be in possession of a pistol.
Ms. Shemwell was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
Ms. Shemwell was booked into the Columbia County Jail on a $12,500 bond.
