Lake City Airport Terminal
The long-awaited ground breaking ceremony for the City’s new 6,000-square foot terminal was held this week and attended by a great crowd of community leaders.
Lake City Mayor Stephen Witt said, “This modern, single-story, user friendly terminal will be the focal point of the City airport providing much needed amenities for local and visiting pilots, which includes a state-of-the-art conference room, pilot briefing area, facilities for private pilot training and other aviation functions.”
Mayor Witt noted that a recent survey indicated a $165-million-a-year economic impact from the Airport.
At a cost of nearly three million dollars, the new terminal will posture the City for tremendous economic growth at the Airport during the coming years. Construction of the new terminal will take approximately nine months.
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP).
The City Staff met with DEP representatives this week to discuss implementation of the Santa Fe River BMAP and how the City must participate.
The City, as a stakeholder in the basin, will be required to list and implement projects that detail Best Management Practices (BMP) that will result in a reduction of nitrate nutrient loads in the river basin. The City must be in compliance with Florida Friendly Yards & Neighborhoods Legislation. Project information must be provided to the DEP by mid- November 2010.
The City already has implemented qualified projects such as the new reclaimed water system and plans for sewer system upgrades.
