Florida Power & Light Account Update
The City’s Florida Power and Light (FPL)
account update was reviewed this week.
Going back to the energy account update from
January 2010, the City achieved a 10% reduction
in energy use for the period of July to December
2009. Annualized, this represented a $150,000
annual savings.
During this time FPL was proposing a rate
increase. This increase would have negated our
savings and had the rate increase gone into
effect, the City’s annual energy costs would
have ballooned about $54,000 more.
See this week's
staff report
for more important information.
Good News
Based on this week’s energy use report for
the period July 2009 through June 2010, the
City’s overall energy consumption was reduced by
just over 5%.
The proposed FPL rate increase was not
approved by the Public Service Commission and
will not go into effect.
During the last 12 months our conservation
measures really paid off.
The City's electric bill was reduced by
$231,944 from the previous 12 month period. This
represents a 19% reduction for the past year.
The combined efforts of all the city's
workers has really paid dividends.
Should anyone wish to see it, the Account
Report is available in the City Manager’s office
for review and we will be happy to share it with
you.
