Skip Jarvis is a career prosecutor and has dedicated his life to the citizens of the Third Judicial Circuit. He was elected to the position of State Attorney in 2008. For over twenty-four years preceding his election he served as an Assistant State Attorney serving as the Civil Division and as the Economic and White Collar Crime Unit for the Third Judicial Circuit. Skip is a local product, having grown up on a farm in Columbia County. He graduated from Columbia High School in Lake City. He received a degree from Lake City Jr. College. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy. He obtained a bachelors degree in Criminology from Florida State University and his Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, Mississippi. He has formerly served as Chief Deputy Clerk of Court in Columbia County and as City Treasurer for the City of Lake City. For some twenty years he was an instructor at the North Florida Community College Law Enforcement Academy in Madison where he taught law enforcement and correctional officers.

As the State Attorney, he is the Constitutional officer charged with representing the State of Florida in Courts within the Third Judicial Circuit, a Circuit comprised of Columbia, Dixie, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, and Taylor Counties. Although we primarily think of a State Attorney as being the Chief Criminal Prosecutor, he also represents the State in various civil matters and litigation. Skip is a hands on administrator who is personally involved in cases throughout the Circuit. He has developed a fraud prevention program to educate our citizens on how to avoid being victimized. The Third Judicial Circuit is the largest in the State in number of counties (seven) and is almost the largest geographically (only one is slightly larger). Our prosecutors, investigators, and support staff are dedicated to insuring that our communities are safe and that all parties’ rights and interests are protected.
