Fiscal Year 2011 CDBG Commercial Revitalization Application

The North Central Florida Regional Planning Council assisted the City in its submission of a Community Development Block Grant Application to the Florida Department of Community Affairs.  The purpose of this $750,000 commercial revitalization grant is to fund a project consisting of parking improvements in the downtown commercial area on a parcel located west of the Blanche Hotel on NW Veterans Street.

This project is designed to aid in reversal of the declining retail and service economy of the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) Business District (downtown Marion Avenue corridor). The optimum project result will be to create more efficient parking to attract more customers and improve the business and service economy of the CRA Business District.

Tthis project will be complementary to the CRA planning vision as defined in the Downtown Lake City Redevelopment Master Plan.

Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute

Lake City Police Captain John Blanchard graduated from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement “Chief Executive Seminar” on August 18, 2011.

Graduates of this class represent criminal justice agencies around the state who serve in a leadership role within their agency. The goal of the Chief Executive Seminar is to prepare Florida’s law enforcement leadership for the challenging and changing demands of the future. Class participants study trends and events that may affect criminal justice professionals and our state. Classes are designed to develop new leadership skills to address and manage the changes that lie ahead.

The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, established within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and affiliated with the State University System, was established in 1990 by the Florida Legislature who recognized the need for an innovative and multifaceted approach to the education and training of criminal justice professionals.

SunGuard’s ONESolution Software Training

The City of Lake City has selected SunGuard’s ONESolution software to provide for its service needs for financial operations. This new “hi-tech” system will replace the City’s existing NaviLine Software and the training and implementation process has been ongoing all this week. The system will be implemented in February 2012.

SunGuard’s ONESolution Finance software will enhance the City ability to manage day-to-day financial and purchasing processes, as well as payroll and personnel functions. Other services modules will be implemented when available.
