These Columbia County girls will represent Lake City,
Columbia County and Florida in Richmond.
The Lake City Sliders 16 and under Babe Ruth Girls Softball Team have made it to the Regionals, an honor the Sliders have never achieved before. The next stop could be the World Series. First, they have to get to Richmond.

Last weekend the girls went 4-0 in the 2011 Babe Ruth State Championships in Ponte’ Vedra.
With this victory, the Lake City Sliders have earned a spot at Regionals in Richmond Virginia, July 21st – 25th.
The Sliders are reaching out
Travel expenses, hotel accommodations, meals and miscellaneous tournament fees are expected to be approximately $8,000. The Sliders are reaching out to the community for donations.
While a lot of sports teams are out fundraising, the Lake City Sliders 16u team is the only girls sport team out there raising money.
This not a pay to play tournament, these girls have earned their way to play at regionals.
The girls matter
It has been reported to the Observer, that in the past Columbia County has rolled out the red carpet and opened their pockets for the boys teams. Now Columbia County gets the chance to show that girls do matter.
